Volunteer Training, Management and Development
For Volunteers Serving Seniors
The social service and community service sectors utilise many volunteers to run their services and
programmes. Volunteers are needed for elderly befriending, helpline service, outreach programmes to the
elderly etc. It is therefore crucial for managers, volunteer coordinators, administrators, social workers
etc. to understand the constituents of an effective volunteer management system and how to create it. They
would need to be aware of the issues and challenges involved in the recruitment, screening and selection,
as well as maintenance and development of volunteers.
Training programmes for volunteers are available for a range of topics. They include:
- Myths and facts of ageing
- Understanding the physical, psychological and social aspects of ageing
- Communicating with the elderly
- Basic skills for counselling seniors
- Volunteer management and development
- Etc.
